HUCK
As much as they say, "you should never judge a book by its cover". In life many decisions are made this way. I often purse the New This Week section in our local comic shop, this is how I found Mark Millers' Huck! Published by Image Comics, creative minds Mark Miller and illustrations
by Alburquerque (the cover art is stunning!)

A simple story concept that could have infinite possibilities in the first issue we are introduced to a quiet town where the local gas station attendant enjoys making people happy. All he wants in return upon completion of whats asked of him is for his secret to be kept safe. The story is slow to pick up but the title character, Huck is endearing. All six issues have been collected in a trade paperback due out this summer! Stay tuned for our more in depth review of the series.
Harley Quinn & Power Girl
One of my favourite depictions of Harley Quinn and Power Girl. |
While waiting for
the second volume in DC's New 52 Harley Quinn series to find its way into
paperback form- being a post grad in a tight job market has proved interesting-
I found a new comic! Harley had teamed up with Power Girl! What sort of antics
will she get up to now? I thought flipping through the pages. You all know the
contemplative should I dive into another comic series thought process. (if you want insight into my process, blog to come).
Picking up the
second issue first, I casually flipped through stopping at a scene where Power
Girl and Harley Quinn were battling a
multi headed monster against surmountable odds. It was Harley's face with the
squee, "He's so cute!" where I lost it! laughed and made the decision
that Harley Quinn teaming up with Power Girl will be a welcome distraction
while I wait.
I was not wrong!

Comic Review: Hawkeye Vol .1 - My Life As a Weapon
Marvel's reboot of everyone's favorite sarcastic Archer, Clint Barton aka, Hawkeye. Written by Matt Fraction, Artists: David Aja, Francesco Francavilla, Steve Lieber & Jesse Hamm.
Strip the now popular almost life like visuals in favour of a minimalist finish. This allows the reader to appreciate the work the artist crafted.
You find out as one reads this colour pallet is chosen for a reason. With the right amount of humour and more action then your eyes can follow. Switching up the colorization just a tad added a sharp increase in depth. An attempt to really portray the mood of a scene. Which translated well.
If you want to know how Hawkeye escapes the evil clutches of Madam Mask, see where some old friends pay a visit or if his bad ass ride survives a run in with tracksuit wearing "Bro" gangsters. Check out 'My Life as a Weapon'-Hawkeye Volume One.
